Asia Industrial Marketing Strategy Cases
Mapping of solar power equipment manufacturers in Korea, Japan, and Australia

Client: The client is a global provider of high performance motion control technologies, with keen interests to explore new opportunities in the fast-emerging solar power sector of Asia.
Issue: As solar energy was unchartered waters for the client, it needed practical advice and on-the-ground competitive intelligence to help develop a winning market entry strategy.
Solution: Solidiance recommended to first conduct a preliminary study by mapping out the existing players in leading precision engineering countries, namely Japan, Korea and Australia. These players could be both potential competitors as well as potential acquisition targets for the client during their intended market entry. Understanding the existing Asia Pacific players would be key shed light on the types of technologies available in the market, how strong or weak existing payers wee, and what are the biggest opportunities and threats to the client's business.
Approach: Solidiance conducted extensive desk research to scan potential manufacturers and build a list of relevant targets. Our in-house native speakers then conducted interviews with competitors in Japan, Korea and Australia to verify technology, top line finances, current market targets, growth perspectives and management background.
Engagement ROI: Solidiance found little synergy between what the client would want to offer and the existing market needs. The market and relevant technologies were still in an embryonic stage, and there was no attractive acquisition target available. The final recommendation was for the client to keep this market segment on hold, while continuing monitor competitors and the market movement that would signal better times for market entry.
