The regulatory environment related to merger and acquisition deals in Indonesia has experienced major changes recently as President Joko Widodo aims to attract more foreign investors. Last year, Indonesia's M&A deals were recorded to be USD 8.4 billion, with the mega deal of Newmont Nusa Tenggara acquisition by Medco Energy contributing to a third of the total value. This year, the technology sector took over the dominance by recording 32% of USD 4 billion in total value during the first half. This article highlights Indonesia's M&A deals per industry in the past three years and why the country will remain to be an attractive stage for M&A in Southeast Asia.
